London resident one of 11 people killed in horrific crash (update)

Update: OPP are holding a news conference in London today at 10:30 a.m. to brief the media on the current status of the investigation into the horrific crash that resulted in the deaths of 11 people.

A London man has been identified as the driver of a truck involved in a fatal crash northeast of Stratford on Monday (Feb. 6).

The collision at the intersection of Perth Road 107 and Line 47 in Hampstead happened just before 5 p.m., closing the intersection until 4 a.m. on Tuesday. Police said a truck travelling southbound on Perth Road, with the right of way, struck a van carrying 13 people travelling westbound on Line 47.

Ten occupants inside the van were pronounced dead at the scene, along with the driver of the truck. Two passengers from the van were rushed to Stratford General Hospital. One of victims was later transferred to the London Health Sciences Centre. Another injured victim from the van was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital.

The driver of the truck has been identified as Christopher Fulton, 38. The 10 deceased occupants of the van have been brought to the coroner’s office in Toronto where identification will be made.

Perth County OPP continue to investigate the crash.
