London Community News
It’s the last week of school for London and areas students and while that makes most kids happy it can be worrisome for parents. It’s important that children have a fun summer break but it’s vital to keep them engaged and stimulated.
So how are your children spending the summer? If you don’t yet have plans for them you’ll want to check this out:
The YMCA of Western Ontario has a number of day camps throughout the city and neighbouring towns like St. Thomas, Strathroy and Woodstock. These camps offer a wide variety of activities for youth of all ages. From sailing and fishing to yoga and dance there’s a tonne to do for students ages 3 to 17.
All Y camps are based on a scientifically proven “40 asset” framework, developed by the US YMCA in partnership with the national Search Institute, that details the common sense, positive experiences and qualities that help influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible adults. Based on a study of 2.2 million children and youth, from communication and family bonds, to education, boundaries and role modeling, the curriculum of Y camps fulfills 29 of these assets

The YMCA Cheer Mob
The YMCA is doing something really exciting to help spread the word of summer camp season. Check it out this Friday, June 24 in downtown London.
“London’s first ever cheer mob, a huge and jubilant crowd of YMCA of Western Ontario day camp staffers, will be marching through downtown London over the lunch hour this Friday June 24, cheering, chanting and promoting the start of Y day camps, which begin at seven London and area locations on July 4.
“Why? To spread the infectious energy that is Y camps!”
You can check out the cheer mob by following them on their route.
The cheer mob will leave the Centre Branch Y on Waterloo at 11:30 a.m., travel down King to Wellington, through the South side of CitiPlaza past the food court, and back to King to the Covent Garden Market Square. After some time in the Square, the group will head up Talbot to Dundas, to the Central Library and through the Library Passageway, back through CitiPlaza on the North side, past the Scotia Bank, back to Wellington, up to Dundas and down to Waterloo, ending back at Centre Branch.
Here’s to a happy and safe summer!
