London Police Chief Brad Duncan welcomed Derek Vasseur and his family — sister Madison and parents Vickie and Kevin — to a celebration for Sunshine Alumni on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 18). In October of this year, Derek received his dream of a trip to New York City where he had the opportunity to meet with legendary comic book writer Stan Lee at the Marvel Comic offices.
Held at the Four Points by Sheraton on Wellington Road, the event once again brought together police officers and Sunshine families from the London area as part of the Sunshine Foundation’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
Sunshine Alumni are former recipients of individual dreams or DreamLifts, which are designed for children with severe disabilities or life-threatening illnesses.
The Sunshine Foundation of Canada was founded in London by a police officer who lost his teenage son to muscular dystrophy. Over the 25 years since it was founded, Sunshine has fulfilled dreams ranging from gifts of computers and customized bicycles to celebrity meetings and family trips.
