It is a Christmas tradition with the Rocco family that just keeps getting bigger and better.
Adding one or two new pieces each Christmas, Vincent and Maria have been creating a miniature Christmas village for their family to enjoy every year in the living room of their North London home.
“I remember doing stuff like this with my father, and I wanted to carry on the tradition with my children,” said Vincent explaining how it all began.
Now with close to 100 major pieces and upwards of 300 smaller items, what started out small has turned into a week-long project to get ready.
Maria said that with the number of pieces they have and the size of display, it generally takes two days of preparation and three days to assemble the magical tableau. She notes that because they have so many pieces, every year the set up is different. Maria said that while they just don’t have the space to bring it all out at once, because of that, next year they are considering setting up a second display as well.
With both their daughters having grown up and moved away, one might question why the couple still goes to such lengths with their annual Christmas display.
While Vincent remarked it was that was still fun to do that they enjoy doing, Maria added, “It is something we all look forward to that brings them (their daughters) back every year.”
