Captain (Navy) Dr. Raymond Kao (left) was appointed the First Chair in Military Critical Care Research at Lawson Health Research Institute (LHRC) by Brigadier-General Jean-Robert Bernier, surgeon general/commander, Canadian Forces Heath Services Group (right), during a ceremony at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) Victoria hospital on Thursday (Jan. 31).
Kao, a member of the Canadian Armed Forces since 1977, is the senior critical care advisor to the Surgeon General, a researcher at Lawson and critical care physician at LHSC. Kao’s research into new uses for the hormone erythroprotein to improve blood flow and tissue oxygen usage can be used to help stabilize soldiers wounded on the battlefield.
Also on hand for the presentation were Michael Naish, Bertann Ward and Sharon Naish — family of the late Group Captain G. Edward Hall for whom the Military Critical Care Research Chair is named after.
