A popular U.S. franchise opens just its second Canadian location in London today (March 18).
Qdoba Mexican Grill (841 Wellington RD S.) offers a wide variety of handcrafted, fresh and innovative Mexican cuisine, according to franchisee Leo Stathakis.
“I’m a huge fan of the food,” he said. “I used to make trips into the U.S. specifically to get it.”
With over 20 years in the restaurant business, Stathakis is the president of QNorth Development Corporation, a group of experienced restauranteurs and investors with the rights to the Qdoba brand in southern Ontario. He said the fast-casual chain, which has opened more than 600 locations in 44 states since 1995, is focused on fresh ingredients and a customizable menu of items made right in front of the customer.
“The difference is the passion for fresh food," he said. "Everything is hand made, which is what sets Qdoba apart from other Mexican restaurants."
According to a release from the company, "guests can choose from a variety of unique and innovative menu items inspired by flavours from culinary regions in the U.S. and Mexico like the brand’s signature 3-Cheese Queso or Ancho Chile BBQ sauce.”
The system allows Qdoba guests to create millions of different meal combinations, he said, adding the restaurant can accommodate those seeking vegetarian, gluten-free, low-calorie or low-fat dishes. It also offers a Craft 2 menu, which features smaller portions of its most popular entrees, such as naked burritos and taco soup.
Qdoba is celebrating its grand opening with a couple of giveaways. During its first week, March 18-23, the first 20 customers through the door each day (it opens at 10:30 a.m.) will receive a free entrée.
The restaurant will also encourage guests to become members of Qdoba Rewards, a loyalty program that routinely rewards participants with free food and other benefits.
The first 500 Ontario customers who register as members of Qdoba Rewards will receive a free burrito when they buy a burrito, and anyone who registers during opening week will be automatically entered to win free entrees for a year (a total of 52 free entrees, one per week).
Qdoba’s Canadian locations also offer Qdoba’s fresh and hot catering services with buffet-style Hot Bars (taco, nacho and Naked Burrito® bars) and burrito box lunches that can feed from 10 to 100 people.
The chain’s parent company, Jack in the Box Inc., intends to open up to 85 additional Qdoba restaurants in North America in fiscal 2013.
