Downtown

Over 5,000 residents live in downtown, and over 10,000 live within a 3 km radius of the downtown core. Downtown is home to many popular tourist destinations, including the John Labatt Centre, Museum London, The Grand Theatre and Covent Garden Market.

Hyde Park

Hyde Park consists of the two-lane, main London road, Hyde Park Road, which experiences a high volume of traffic between Oxford Street and Fanshawe Park Road. The area has shopping (including a big-box plaza on Fanshawe Park Road), new housing, golf courses and walking trails.

Byron

Byron is located in the west side of London on the outer edges. Byron is also home to the Byron Bog or “Sifton Bog,” and the largest park in London, Springbank Park.

Rural London (Arva, Lambeth, Ilderton)

The outer edges of London include many rural towns, such as Ilderton, Lambeth and Arva. Ilderton is located on the west side of Richmond Street near Hyde Park Road and Ilderton Road with a population of 2,000 residents. Arva is located around the Mill Pond on Medway Creek. The town is known for being home to the Arva Flour Mill and now the current home of London’s new mayor, Joe Fontana. Lambeth began as a centre in Westminster Township. The area celebrated its Bicentennial last year.

Masonville

The Masonville area, in the north end of London, is one of the prime spots in the city for shopping and dining. Masonville Mall was built in 1985 as a focal point for the area, and is now surrounded by a growing number of retail developments and “big box” stores.

White Oaks

White Oaks neighbourhood is located within Wellington Road, Southdale Road, White Oak Road and Exeter Road. The area includes one of the largest malls in Canada, White Oaks Mall. With many retail establishments, hotels and even Westervelt College, Whiteoaks is also a prime spot for employment in the city.

Westmount

Westmount, located in the southwest area of London, is one of the most affluent areas in the city. The neighbourhood’s population is over 16,000 residents.

Old South

For a small town feeling in the big city, look no further than Old South and Wortley Village. Wortley Village is known as a specialized area for antiques, collectibles and over 80 small businesses. The area’s village ambiance still remains, as many of the buildings and estates are over 100 years old.

Huron Heights

Huron Heights is located in the northeast part of London, west of Clarke Road and Highbury Avenue. Fanshawe College and Fanshawe Park, a conservation area with a 20 km lake trail, are main features of the area.

East

Over the last 130 years, the area known as “Old East” or “East of Adelaide,” has been an integral part of London’s history. The area was the site of the discovery of insulin by Sir Frederick Banting, and also includes the Western Fair and the London Transit Commission.

Old North

The neighbourhood in North London, known as “Old North,” originally represented much of the city’s newfound wealth in the 1870’s. The area is home to University Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital and numerous parks and shopping locations.

Oakridge

Oakridge is located in London’s west end. The area began developing in 1951 and was annexed from the London township in 1961. The area includes many churches, schools, sports facilities and retail services.
