Cooling centres help residents beat the heat

The city is trying to help residents chill out during the heat wave currently engulfing London. Cooling centres are available during the extreme heat alert that has been issued by the Middlesex-London Health Unit. Community centres, spray pads and public library locations are open for anyone who needs to beat the heat. Spray pads are open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 12 locations in the city, including Gibbons, Rowntree, Lambeth, Forks of Thames, Kiwanis, West Lions, Bonaventure, Jesse Davidson, South East Optimist, Oakridge, Ed Blake Park and Medway. The wading pool in Springbank Park is also open 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Emergency shelters will be making special arrangements to provide cooling spaces and hydration. Outreach teams, including London CAReS will be extra vigilant to spot and assist individuals suffering in the heat.
