Construction activities might cause water discolouration

London Community News

As part of the city’s annual watermain and sewer capital replacement program, an existing trunk water main on Maitland Street must be shut down July 3-6. With this trunk out of service, other watermains will experience higher than normal flow rates, which have the potential to release particles of rust from the interior surfaces of older, cast iron water mains. Although this does not represent a health concern, residents in the affected area may experience a slight red or brown discolouration in their tap water, or fluctuating pressure. These effects may be experienced in the area that is bounded by Horton Street north to Huron Street and Wharncliffe Road east to Adelaide Street. The city’s water services area recommends customers within this area avoid washing laundry during this period if they notice the discolouration. These effects could be experienced on any of the days indicated. Anyone experiencing water pressure problems or discolouration after July 6 should call 519-661-4739.
