Local Target stores set to open April/May 2013

Target confirmed on Thursday (July 12) the list of store locations opening across Canada in 2013, including two in London — Masonville Place and Westmount Shopping Mall — that will be among the first.
In all, 125 Target stores will open in Canada in 2013, according to the retailer, with more stores opening in early 2014. The local stores are expected to open in April or May of 2013.
The U.S. discount retailer entered the Canadian market by buying the leases to 220 Zellers stores from HBC for $1.825-billion in January 2011.
Since the beginning of this year, Target has been publically confirming the Zellers sites that it intends to convert into Target stores for 2013. The list released today includes 20 new locations but no new locations in Ontario.
“Construction has already begun on our first set of stores and we are excited to see the transformation as the Target brand comes to life in Canada,” said Tony Fisher, president of Target Canada, in a release posted to Target.ca.
Target has 1,764 stores across the U.S.
