Whale Wars star Paul Watson has fled Germany
London Community News
Sea Shepherd Conservation Society founder and president and Whale Wars star Paul Watson, who has family here in London, has left Germany and is in an “undisclosed location.”
Watson was arrested in May in Frankfurt for allegedly putting a ship’s crew in danger during a confrontation at sea in 2002 off the west coast of Central America while attempting to stop shark fin poachers.
He was out on bail in Germany and was facing extradition to Costa Rica.
According to the society’s website, Watson’s attorney has reported Watson recently left Germany over fears that if were extradited, the Japanese government may have sought to have him brought to Japan to answer charges related to obstructing whaling activities in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.
Other media are reporting an arrest warrant has been issued for Watson.
Watson had been scheduled to speak at two London events last month but had to cancel due to his detainment in Germany.
