London Community News
London will host this year's 2012 Ontario Tree Climbing Championship on next Saturday (Sept. 15) in Springbank Park.
This provincial competition features the top talent in arboriculture and an arboreal display of strength, speed and agility. Different competitions test the knowledge, skills and abilities of the men and women brave enough to compete. The top climbers will go on to compete at the International Tree Climbing Championship in Toronto in 2013.
The Ontario Tree Climbing Championship features five preliminary events: a work climb, belayed speed climb, simulated aerial rescue, foot-lock style rope climb and throwline challenge. The top four men and top two women competitors from the preliminaries advance to the Master’s Challenge, a final event where the Ontario men’s and women’s champion will be crowned.
Spectators are welcome to attend this free event. All activities will take place in the west end of Springbank Park, just west of the pavilion and children’s wading pool. A trade show of arborist equipment will be featured and spectators can try climbing like an arborist in the “Climb For All Ages” under the guidance of a professional arborist.
The championships take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information visit www.isaontario.com.
