London Knights Way unveiled

Another sign of the times in London as London Mayor Joe Fontana, along with Mark and Dale Hunter unveiled London Knights Way at the corner of Talbot Street and Covent Market Place — across from the home of the Knights at Budweiser Gardens.
The one-way street stills bears the Covent Market name, but now has the London Knights Way title over top of it with a green Knights logo to match.
“Not very often a Junior A team, I don’t think this has ever happened, that they have a street named after them,” Mark said. “We’re very proud of it.”
The Knights are nearing their 45th season in London and the contributions the team has given to fans and the city is unparalleled to most clubs in Canada, Fontana said.
“We couldn’t think of anything better than to showcase and have this and become London Knights Way, so that people can recognize their incredible contribution,” Fontana added, taking his grandson to tonight’s (Sept. 21) home opener. “We are so proud of what they’ve been able to accomplish with their team and, of course, last year being the OHL champions and coming oh so close, but that was just a teaser to the real event for 2013 when they become Memorial Cup champions.”
The Knights open the 2012-2013 season at 7:30 p.m. at Budweiser Gardens.
