It was a barbecue bash Wednesday (Sept. 26) for about 240 people who gathered around picnic tables for a hot lunch for the annual WOTCH Community Mental Health Services’ (534 Queens Ave.) United Way fundraiser.
Marcia Neilands, with WOTCH, said nearly $1,200 was raised this year for a great beneficiary.
“We’ve been recipients of a lot of good works by the United Way,” Neilands said. “We want to be a good neighbour; we want to give back.”
But what gave the afternoon its friendly feel was the entertainment offered by singer-songwriter Sarah Smith, Neilands added.
Much of the food, including hamburgers, cake and salads, was donated to WOTCH for the event. Neilands said she hopes that becomes a trend that continues next year.
