Green bin pilot project to end Nov. 8

London Community News

By Mallory Clarkson/London Community News/Twitter: @MalloryClarkson With the city’s green bin pilot project coming to an end on Nov. 8, Jay Stanford, London’s director of environmental programs and solid waste, said an update will be presented to council on Monday (Oct. 1). While it won’t have any results included in it, Stanford said the report will remind councillors the project is concluding soon and inform them the program’s final results will be available early next year. “We’ve got to crunch all of the information and bring that forward in time for the budget deliberations as they move forward,” Stanford said. As for whether the pilot project will be expanded or made permanent, Stanford said that decision isn’t up to city staff to decide. He stressed the commitment was only for a year. “We haven’t been instructed to extend the pilot,” he said. “At this point, we have not in our report said whether we should extend or not, that’s really not our call. "We've got a lot of information after one year; it's a matter now of compiling it all and bringing forward the results."
