Whether people ran or walked during the Cash Store Financial’s Freedom Run on Saturday (Oct. 13), the autumn-inspired backdrop of changing colours and falling leaves made for some good scenery for all.
More than 25 people turned out for the charitable stroll with groups of friends, parents with children and pets taking part in either a 3- or 5-km route.
The Freedom Run raised around $2,600 with funds going to support the Canadian Diabetes Association. More than 90 local businesses donated prizes to be won and add gifts to the swag bags handed out.
According to the Canadian Diabetes Association, more than nine million people live with diabetes or prediabetes in the country and the disease is a contributing factor to approximately 41,500 deaths in Canada each year.
