Local Food Skills program offers fresh preserves
London Community News
In 2011, as part of its Local Food Skills program, London Training Centre began growing vegetables in a five-acre field west of London. As the produce grew, so did the food-related skills, products and initiatives the program inspired.
Demonstrating the “farm to fork” concept, growing, harvesting and preserving vegetables provided participants an opportunity to connect more closely with food grown ecologically and close to home.
With the harvest now over, there are fresh preserves for sale. The skills and techniques of preserving food taught to people in the program represent their respect for natural foods picked and preserved at the height of freshness.
With your purchase, you are supporting the Local Food Skills program, which is offered free to people exploring jobs and careers in the food sector.
The preserves for sale include Apple Triple Berry Jelly, Strawberry-Lavendar Jam ($4), Basil Pesto with Walnuts ($5), Charred Heirloom Tomato Salsa ($4), Dilly Pickles ($7), Dilly Beans ($7), Green Tomato Chutney ($7), Piccalilli ($10), Pickled Garlic Scapes ($5), Sweet Pickled Escabeche ($7), Tomato Pasta Sauce ($15), Vegetable Antipasto ($5) and Zucchini Relish ($6).
