London city council will soon have more representation on the board of health of the Middlesex-London Health Unit.
The city’s Strategic Priorities and Policy Committee agreed Monday (Nov. 19) evening to nominate a third member of council to the board in place of a citizen from the community at large. The vote was 8-7.
Until now council policy was to send two members to the autonomous body, but in the discussion leading up to the decision, councillors currently serving on the board said it is a tough row to hoe for the uninitiated.
About half of council appeared to agree with Ward 4 Councillor Stephen Orser that the idea wasn’t to take an opportunity away from the public.
“It’s a hard chair to hold,” Orser said.
Ward 14 Councillor Sandy White will join Orser and Ward 11 Councillor Denise Brown on the board.
