Sears Canada announced today it is reducing staff by 700 associates, approximately 360 from the company’s full-line department store operations (2 to 4 people per store on average) and about 300 from Sears distribution centres. The rest of the jobs are in head office and support areas.
“This is part of our initiative to right-size the organization, which is working in concert with other initiatives to make Sears successful,” spokesman Vincent Power wrote in an e-mail to media.
He said the reductions are spread across the country.
Earlier today Best Buy announced it was closing 15 Future Shop and Best Buy locations across Canada.
