Fishing line is a hazard to animals (letter)
London Community News
Dear editor,
Patricia Breen’s letter (August 16) regarding the fish line strung over a pond, identifies an important issue.
I walk almost daily near a pond in a conservation area just outside London. Virtually every day I pick up fish line, yards and yards of fish line that has been discarded by fishermen. Birds, deer and other wildlife become entangled in this line and die.
Recently, I found a Canada Goose dead, its wings rendered useless by tangled fish line. Fishermen have a responsibility to leave the area where they have fished clean and free from hazardous materials such as hooks and fish line.
