Ryan Barbeau, one of the top Western Mustangs’ basketball players in recent history, will be wearing a new jersey next season after signing a contract with the Baskets Vilsbiburg club in Germany.
“My five years playing at Western University under coach Brad Campbell have allowed me to develop as a basketball player, and I am very fortunate to be moving on to play professionally,” said Barbeau in a release. “I am dedicated to helping Vilsbiburg add a new dimension, and helping the team win however I can.”
Barbeau led the Canadian Interuniversity Sport in scoring last season with 483 points, averaging 24.2 points per game.
For his efforts, the Belleville, Ont. native was named an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) West Division First Team All-Star. This was the second provincial all-star nod for the point guard, after being named to the West Division’s Second Team in 2009-10.
Barbeau is the fourth Mustang in the past four years to sign a pro contract overseas.
