Jr. Mustangs’ looking for wins

London Community News

Photos by Jonathon Brodie/London Community News / Twitter: @jonathonbrodie The tough times continued for the Ontario Varsity Football League’s London Junior Mustangs younger squads with a pair of losses to the Hamilton Ironmen at TD Waterhouse Stadium Saturday (June 30). The Bantam Junior Mustangs opened the afternoon and it didn’t start well for the team, down 12-0 at halftime. The Junior Mustangs’ defence held up for the rest of the game and their biggest stand came on their final stop of the Ironmen on a fourth down attempt at London’s 13-yard line with only a few minutes left in the game and the score 12-7. The Mustangs’ offence almost completed the rally, driving down the field to Hamilton’s five-yard line, but couldn’t finish the comeback. The Bantam Mustangs are now 1-5 and seventh place in the Adam Conference. The Junior Mustangs’ Junior Varsity team took to the field next, looking for their first win of the OVL season. The JV Hamilton Ironmen opened the scoring with back-to-back touchdowns and the Mustangs were never able to overcome the deficit, down 14-0 halftime. The Ironmen opened the gash further in the third quarter, spreading the game 34-7 before the Mustangs’ mustered some strength. London almost pulled off the rally, but just fell short losing 34-28 to remain at the bottom of the Adam Conference with the winless Halton Cowboys. [gallery link="file"]
