The North London Galaxy girls’ under-16 team impressed the home crowd last weekend (July 7-8) winning their Ontario Cup round robin to move on to the quarter-finals.
The Galaxy girls opened with a booming 12-0 win over the Windsor Eastside Kickers, which proved to be a big help to the home squad playing at the North London Athletic Fields.
London followed the win with another shutout the same day (July 7) against the Tecumseh Warriors in a 2-0 victory.
In Sunday’s matchup, Galaxy saw a few misfortunes losing 1-0 to the Pickering Power Green and having starting goalkeeper, Deedra Chestnut, be taken to hospital via ambulance after a collision with an opposing forward.
London’s big blowout in the first match carried them over Tecumseh in the standings, who only had the one loss, in goal differentials.
Leading players for the Galaxy in the tournament included Tori Sanderson with three goals and six assists and Montana Portenier finding the back of the net three times of her own and adding four helpers.
London now plays the winners of Group One between Glen Shields, Ajax FC, North Mississauga Panthers, Rockwood FC and Etobicoke Energy.
