London Rippers’ first baseman/outfielder Joash Brodin, capped off a good first half to the season after being named the Most Valuable Player at this year’s Frontier League All-Star Game Wednesday (July 11) in Normal, Illinois, going 4-for-5 with a homerun and three runs scored.
Brodin collected two singles, a double and home run to lead the Eat Division to a 9-6 win over the West.
Rippers’ catcher Jamie Richmond added a perfect fourth inning for the East All-Stars, getting two ground outs and ground out.
London catcher Jim Vahalik played a few innings and went 0-for-2 at the plate, while pitcher Yohan Gonzalez gave up a two-run long ball in the fifth inning.
Brodin had some extra work the night before (July 10), participating in the Frontier League Home Run Derby and making it to the semifinal.
Brodin led off with five homers in the first round of the derby, but couldn’t find any strength in the second and couldn’t put a ball over the fence.
This was Brodin’s third all-star appearance and this year he leads the Rippers in batting average (.372) and RBI’s (42) and is second in home runs on the team with seven.
The Rippers begin the second half of the season July 13 on the road in Crestwood, Illinois against the Windy City Thunderbolts. London’s first home series starts July 16 against the Southern Illinois Miners.
