PeeWee Badgers friends with Philadelphia foes

London Community News

A relationship started last summer in Cooperstown, N.Y. at a baseball tournament will continue July 23 at Stronach Park when the Pee Wee London Badgers host the Anderson Monarchs to kick off what the Badgers’ program has dubbed 'Friendship Week in Baseball'. The Monarchs are an inner-city team that’s part of the larger Philadelphia Youth Organization, which has been providing programs for disadvantaged youth in Philadelphia since 1989. Badgers head coach Ken Frowerk, his team and their parents will do their best to make the visiting Monarchs feel right at home during their week in the London area. It will be a week that will include a trip to the beach, a London Rippers game, a trip to a Toronto Blue Jays game and wrap up with a round-robin tournament that will also call-on the Richmond Hill Pee Wees and the Chicago Renegades to the field July 28-29. The Opening Ceremonies for ‘Friendship Week in Baseball’ will begin at 5:30 p.m. July 23 at Stronach Park with Pee Wee Badger player Jack Zhan playing the national anthems on his guitar with mayor Joe Fontana throwing out the first pitch.
