Looking for a perfect season
London Community News
The London Junior Mustangs Varsity squad showed Saturday (July 14) that they might not only be the best team in the Adam Conference, but they quite easily could be the top team in the whole Ontario Varsity Football League.
The Mustangs laid an absolute beat down against the Metro Toronto Wildcats at TD Waterhouse Stadium in the weekend game, crushing the Wettges Conference’s second-place team to a score of 52-13 and are now just one win away from a perfect 8-0 season.
London’s offence had things moving in full gear right off the first possession with a highlight 40-yard fingertip catch by receiver Nate Behar to setup an easy one-yard run for a touchdown. Behar finished the game with two TDs.
The Mustangs’ defence kept pace with their counterparts, picking up two interceptions in the first half.
By halftime the Mustangs took a 31-0 lead and wouldn’t look back.
Currently, the Mustangs and Hamilton Ironmen are the only teams in the Adam Conference with unblemished records, while the Toronto Thunder remain unbeaten in the Wettges Conference and play Sunday (July 15) against the Kingston Grenadiers before heading into the final week.
The Mustangs’ will have the home crowd behind them in their final regular season game Friday (July 20) against the winless Halton Cowboys at TD Waterhouse Stadium. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.
