Majors set to wrap up regular season schedule against Toronto

London Community News

The London Majors may already have a post-season berth booked in the Intercounty Baseball League playoffs, but that didn’t stop them from stepping up the pace in a trio of weekend contests. Taking to the road on Saturday (July 21), the London bats awoke from a mid-summer slumber to post back-to-back, 10-6 and 15-5 wins over the Burlington Twins and Guelph Royals respectively. The highlight reel play-of-the-day went to Cleveland Brownlee. Up against a 2-1 count, Brownlee tagged his second home run of the game, launching a grand-slam shot over the Royals fence in the top of the ninth inning to score Alan Cattrysse, Steve Froese and Chris Stewart. On Sunday (July 22), the Majors wiped away the nasty taste of a 7-4 loss at home to Kitchener on Friday night (July 20), outscoring the Panthers on their turf by a score of 9-2. Chris Chambers would go the distance on the mound for London, giving up only six hits over nine innings of play. The London Majors will be looking to close out the regular season on a winning note tonight (July 23) when they play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs starting at 7:30 p.m. at Labatt Memorial Park.
