Nor’West dominates soccer fields

London Community News

By Jonathon Brodie/London Community News / Twitter: @jonathonbrodie If people are looking to play some soccer over the long weekend, they’ll have to bring their ball somewhere other than the North London Fields with the 2012 Nor'West Annual Tournament taking up all the pitches. More than 75 teams competed in the Ontario Soccer Association sanctioned matches, the largest registration turnout in the tourney's five-year history with its newest addition of competitive divisions. “We had quite a few inquiries last year for the (competitive) teams, especially around this weekend,” said Chris Dzierwa, Nor’West tournament director. “We decided that we were going to try it, see how it would work out and how many teams we would actually get to come out to the tournament and the turnout has been really good.” Players in both the recreation and competitive divisions range in age from nine to 16 years old and brought in squads all the way from Windsor to Toronto, while bringing in a few Forest City clubs including Nor’West, Marconi Club and North London Soccer Club adding teams. Championship games are held Sunday (Aug. 5), but will be pushed to Monday if there are any weather problems on the original date. [gallery link="file"] Find us on Facebook: London Community News
