Horvat names Canadian alternate captain

London Knights Bo Horvat was announced as the alternate captain of the Canadian Men’s Summer Under-18 Team at the 2012 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament a day before starting the round robin matchups Monday (Aug. 13) in Slovakia. Knights’ centreman Max Domi joins his Ontario Hockey League teammate on the national squad and recorded a high sticking penalty in the opening contest where the Canadians won 4-1 over the Swiss. Canada will play the other teams in their grouping when they hit the ice against Sweden on Tuesday (Aug. 14), followed by a game against Slovakia on Wednesday (Aug. 15). Russia, the U.S., Sweden and Switzerland make up Group A. The top two teams in each division advance to the semifinal round Friday (Aug. 17). The two winners will square off in the tournament final Saturday (Aug. 18). Canada has won the tournament 16 times since the tournament’s inception in 1991. Find us on Facebook: London Community News
