The 23rd and likely final edition of the Flame of Hope golf tournament took to the links at the Sunningdale Golf and Country Club on Wednesday (Aug. 15).
Held in support of diabetes research through the Canadian Diabetes Association, a full card of 140 golfers participated in the event.
“Over the years, we have raised $880,000 for diabetes research — all of which stays here in London,” said Doug Glass, one of the organizers of this year’s tournament. He indicated that they project to raise another $120,000 this year, bringing the total over raised for diabetes research over the 23 years of the tournament to in excess of $1 million.
“A lot of people have committed to it (Flame of Hope) over the years,” remarked Glass. “ Some people have actually even played the tournament for all 23 years. It is just a great commitment to diabetes research.”
