London City making playoff push

London Community News

With only five games left in the regular, the London City Soccer Club is making a Canadian Soccer League playoff push after finishing a six-game homestretch with a 2-1 win against SC Waterloo on Friday (Aug. 24). Both teams traded goals in the second half to make the game 1-1, but Dalibor Mitrovic put in the game winner in the 76th minute to give London the victory. Mitrovic had been sidelined for the last four games with a groin injury and wasn’t put on the pitch until around the 55th minute mark in Friday’s matchup. Sitting in 11th place, the win moves London just two points behind the Montreal Impact Academy who currently sit in the eighth and final playoff spot, but have played three less games than London. The boys in red were sitting in the CSL basement until starting a series of six consecutive games at home where they went 4-1-1 to gain 13 points, more than doubling their points in the standings. London plays on the road for the first time since July 14 when they take on Toronto Croatia at Centennial Stadium on Sunday (Aug. 26). London City played their home opener against Toronto, the CSL’s second-place team, where they lost 3-1. Find us on Facebook: London Community News
