The Thames Valley Regional Athletics football season kicked off this week with a full slate of games being held across the city.
On Thursday, the 2011 defending senior champions, A. B. Lucas Vikings, ventured down to the corner of Highbury and Oxford for their first foray onto the field this season, taking on the John Paul II Catholic Secondary School Jaguars.
The Jaguars may have been first to the scoreboard with a single off a missed field goal attempt by Spencer Bollman, but it wasn’t long until the home team’s claws were clipped as the Lucas squad cranked up their offence in the second quarter.
Touchdowns strikes by Sam Wyllie, Turtle Viana and Dara Sos put the Vikings squarely in the drivers seat.
Leading 21-5 at the half, Lucas tacked on another 17 points to their tally in the final two quarters, heading for home after the final whistle with a 39-5 win.
