London Community News

The London Nationals were scored on by players past Wednesday (Oct. 3) in a 4-2 loss to the St. Thomas Stars at the Western Fair Arena. Former Nationals’ player Colin Mooney opened the scoring with less than three minutes left in the first period after London gave up their first penalty of the game on a Ryan Wells tripping call. Nationals’ fifth year forward Aaron Dartch scored the lone point for London in the second period to add to his seven goal tally and lead his team in putting pucks in the back of the net. The Stars Drew Collinson capitalized on another power play with an assist by Mooney, followed by a goal by rookie Blair Mincer to give St. Thomas a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes. London’s Noah Schwartz shortened the gap midway through the third period, but Ian MacDonald—another former Nationals—putting the icing on the cake for St. Thomas with an empty net goal. This is the Nats third consecutive loss after winning the three previous games before going into the losing streak. London will travel to Leamington to play the Greater Ontario Junior B Hockey League’s first-place Flyers on Thursday (Oct. 4); a team the Nationals lost 5-4 to last week (Sept. 27) in overtime.
