Homecoming - Old South style

London Community News

Photos by Mike Maloney/London Community News/Twitter: mdmaloneyphoto The lights were shining down on Geffen Field as South Collegiate Institute (SCI) welcomed back its alumni for the annual homecoming football game. This year, it was the Medway Cowboys taking up position on the visitors bench for this unique Old South tradition. First up, it was the 1-1, South Junior Lions taking to the Geffen gridiron against the Medway Cowboys, also sporting a 1-1 record. Struggling a bit with its aerial attack, South relied on their ground forces to make the big yardage when they needed it. Leading 7-2 after two quarters of play, the Lions added another pair of TD markers in the bottom half of the game to improve their season record to 2-1 by posting a 21-2 win over the Cowboys. South running back Richie Selmes counted for a pair of SCI TDs while Mike Bushell picked up the other Lions touchdown. In the senior contest however, South was forced to watch from the sidelines as Medway hoisted the Old South Community Organization (OSCO) Cup after edging the Lions by a score of 8-7.
