With only a few games remaining on the regular season schedule, South Collegiate Institute (SCI) Lions edged one step closer to a possible playoff berth by defeating the H.B. Beal Raiders 32-21 in senior girls basketball action on Thursday (Oct. 25).
Hooking up against the Raiders on their home floor, both teams were in desperate need of a win, each coming into the game with four points and equal 2-5 records.
The Lions wasted little time in setting the pace for this game and jumped out to an early first quarter lead.
Closing to within six points at the half, the Beal squad looked like they might have a shot at catching South on the backside, but it was not to be.
Stepping up their game as well over the final two quarters, the Lions not only hung on, but widened the margin to 11 points by the final whistle.
Misa Commodore had the hot hand for South, dropping nine of the Lions 31 points while Darian Durston lead the way for H.B. Beal with seven.
With two games left to play on the regular season schedule, SCI currently sits alone in seventh place of the Thames Valley Regional Athletics Central Tier 2 division. They are two points up on H.B. Beal, Clarke Road Secondary School and Central Secondary School — the team they will face on Monday (Oct. 29) before wrapping things up against undefeated Monseigneur-Bruyere on Wednesday (Oct. 31).
