London Community News

The Fanshawe Falcons men’s cross country team avenged last year’s second-place finish at the Canadian College Athletic Associations final by running to the top of the podium this time around in St. Lambert, Que. on Saturday (Nov. 10). Clint Smith led the way for the Falcons at the national championship coming in 51 seconds behind the leader Andrew deGroot fom St. Clair College. This is Smith’s second straight silver medal at the national stage. Fanshawe Josh Lumani put a nice cherry on top to end his season when he crossed the line in the 10th spot, after collapsing last year about 200-metres from the finish and not being able to get back up. The Falcons’ finished the 2011 Canadian championships three points behind first-place Sainte Foy College — who came second this time around. Lumani placed in the top-10 for every race he entered this season. Fanshawe’s Daniel Bright came in 19th place and in the middle of a pack of runners that were only separated by nine seconds, but was the difference between the 17th spot and the 22nd.
