Four divisions, eight London Jr. Knight teams and two local squads came out as champions at the AA Tim Hickman Memorial hockey tournament at the Western Fair arena this weekend (Nov. 16 to 18).
A little less than 50 teams from across Southwestern Ontario showed up for the annual tourney with the hometown crowd pushing the Major Atom and Major PeeWee Jr. Knights Gold squads to a championship.
The local Atom squad swept the round robin and playoffs of the tournament and wrapped the only thing up with a 2-0 win over the West Hill Golden Hawks, who hadn’t let in a goal in their previous five games until the final.
The Jr. Knights PeeWee squad led the division coming out of the round robin, but had their hands full in the finale against the Mississauga Terriers in a 4-3 win with forward Brysen Waters picking up the game winner with just over five minutes left in the game.
Unfortunately for the four local squads split into the Minor Atom and Minor PeeWee divisions, the clubs didn’t move on to the playoff rounds on Sunday.
