Some of the best players in the Alliance Hockey League hit the ice at the Western Fair Sports Centre for the first-ever Minor Midget All-Star game Saturday (Dec. 15).
Forty players were split into two squads—Team Doughty and Team Carter— to showoff their skill and hopefully have their name penciled in early onto the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Gold Cup Under-16 roster, which takes place in May.
The 15-year-olds were also hoping to impress any OHL scouts in attendance and hopefully do enough to up their stock in the next Priority Selection Draft for the Major Junior hockey league.
In the end, Team Carter pulled out the victory in the fast-paced game with John Nay, from the Kitchener Jr. Rangers, and Cullen Mercer, from the Huron Perth Lakers putting in the goals in a 2-1 score.
