The North London Blue and White Hockey Tournament had to go outside of its boundaries to host the 88-team event, being held at seven different arenas across the Forest City this past weekend (Jan. 4 to Jan. 6).
The teams were split into 14 different divisions, ranging from Novice to Midget, to compete in a whopping 177 games, with the bulk being played at the Western Fair Sports Centre.
Of the 14 championships, seven London squads managed to make it to the finale.
Of those, three hometown clubs won it all with the North London Golden Fury beating the North London Mustangs 3-2 in the Atom division, the West London Hawks squeaking by the Kitchener Jr. Rangers Blue 1-0 in the Minor Bantam championship and the North London Nationals stomping the Kitchener Jr. Rangers Blue 5-2 in the Minor Bantam title fight.
The London Bandits Black club, in the Minor Midget division, had a good showing going through the round robin of their four-team grouping with a 3-0 record before beating the Hamilton Hub Phantoms 9-3 in the semifinal, but fell in the championship game 2-1 to the Brantford Saints — the only other undefeated squad in the eight-team division.
