Moncton looking for a miracle as Lightning take 2-0 series lead

London Community News

Moncton may need a miracle if they have any hope of extending their National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) season past this coming weekend.

Playing at the Budweiser Gardens on Wednesday (March 27), the London Lightning increased their best-of-five semifinal series lead to 2-0 after posting a 89-78 decision over the Moncton Miracles.

Unlike the 100 points plus outing just two nights before, London’s offence struggled to find their scoring touch through much of the contest, actually trailing Moncton 59-57 heading into the final frame.

It was then that the Lightning offence finally seemed to pick up the pace, outscoring Moncton 32-19 over the fourth quarter to lay claim to the win.

Rodney Buford would have the hot hands for London this night, shooting for 19 points, followed by Morgan Lewis at 16 including a three-point buzzer beater as the clock ran out to wrap up the scoring.

Game three of the series goes Friday night (March 29), at the Moncton Coliseum.

If necessary, game four is slated for Saturday (March 30) in Moncton and a fifth and deciding game would be back in London at 7 p.m. on Monday (Apr. 1).
