Vikings and Broncos put records on the line

London Community News

Somebody had to lose in the battle of the unbeaten teams Saturday (Oct. 12) between the Sir Frederick Banting Broncos and the A.B. Lucas Vikings in Central Senior high school football action, and it was the boys in blue coming out on top in a 28-20 score.

Banting started the matchup by raining on Lucas’ homecoming with a 75-yard touchdown throw from Mackenzie Ferguson to receiver Travis Dezan on the first play from scrimmage.

That’s the only time the Broncos would hold the lead and using a combination of an air and ground attack the Vikings went up 21-13 at halftime.

The game would stay that way until the fourth quarter where both teams would trade shots and it was Trevor Smith running the ball into the end zone to add the final touches on the game to push Lucas’ win streak to three games.

With Banting’s lose they break their three consecutive victories to start the season.

The Vikings and the (4-0) Central Golden Ghosts are the only teams to have unblemished records in the division. Central will have a bye next week before the two teams meet up at Lucas on Oct. 25.

The Broncos took a double dose of defeats earlier in the day when their winless junior team lost to the perfect younger Vikings team 42-21.
