Chalk festival heads downtown

London Community News

The city’s downtown will be alive with colour, and chalk dust, as the Imadon Expressions in Chalk Street Painting Festival returns this weekend. The Covent Garden Market will host the festival’s more than two-dozen participants daily throughout the Civic Holiday weekend, Saturday, Aug. 4 through Monday, Aug. 6. Talbot Street will be transformed from a blank canvas to an outdoor gallery of inspirational works as more than 25 local artists paint their juried submission using only pastel chalk. Local artist, Andrew Gillet, will paint on Thursday, Aug. 2 at The Covent Garden Market Rotary Square. The painting will come to life throughout the morning and be completed for patrons visiting the market during the lunch hour. The artists begin early Saturday morning and work throughout the day on their hands and knees until the early evening hours. They return on Sunday for another full, gruelling day on the street. The expectation is that the works will be completed prior to judging on Sunday evening. Awards will be presented in a variety of categories on Monday afternoon. For more information regarding the festival, visit our website www.imadon.org or contact Brad Harwood by phone at 519-439-4381 or email at bradharwood@rogers.com.
