The Aeolian hosts Humanitarian Aid With Dignity presentation tonight (July 31)

Have you ever wondered how you can make a difference in the world? Do you ever wonder about how to give effectively in the world today? Those who have will get the chance to learn more as The Aeolian (795 Dundas St. E.) hosts Humanitarian Aid With Dignity, a presentation by Jeff Eames, on Tuesday (July 31). The event, which begins at 7 p.m., features a presentation by Eames, president of SW Ontario Council of the Canadian Red Cross. Admission is by donation with all proceeds going towards sustaining programming and operations at The Aeolian. Celebrating 50 years of international work, Eames — who is also chair of TARA International in Canada — has managed humanitarian aid programs around the globe. In this presentation, he discusses the challenges and necessities of a career in humanitarian aid. Drawing on personal experiences, Eames talks about how past humanitarian operations have succeeded (and failed) for aid victims while maintaining their dignity. From Cambodia to Afghanistan, from Oxfam to the UN, Eames uncovers the many different skill sets and talents needed to be effective in humanitarian aid. Eames will pay special attention to living and working with different ethnic groups and cultures he has alternated from being a professional contracting engineer to an active humanitarian aid worker for many years. Eames is an experienced and accredited trainer and for three years set up and led the RedR Canada Training Team. He now heads up TARA International, a not for profit association of NGO consultants and trainers and is president of SW Ontario council of the Canadian Red Cross. Eames is trained in child psychology and is a youth counselor. He serves on The Aeolian Hall Music Arts Association board of directors and the El Sistema Aeolian steering committee.
