Kongsberg, a high tech defence company new to London, has partnered with several groups to bring the highlights of Roald Amundsen’s journey to the South Pole to the Forest City.
Kongsberg and the Royal Norwegian Embassy have partnered with the London Economic Development Corporation, the London Public Library, and City Plaza to share Cold Recall with local residents. Cold Recall is a traveling exhibit that highlights Amundsen’s expeditions through the Northwest Passage and to the South Pole.
Through Amundsen’s own 100-year-old photos visitors to City Plaza’s third floor will get to see what he and his crew had to endure during the exhibition, as well as, the unique relationship he developed with local Inuit families during his extended stay in Nunavut. The knowledge and skills he learned from them became crucial to his success in winning the race for the South Pole a few years later.
Canada and Norway have a shared history with Arctic exploration and face many of the same challenges in the High North with regards to climate change, natural resources, sovereignty etc.
The exhibit kicked off with a private reception on Sept. 28 and will be open daily to the public until Nov. 9.
